Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa or Beyond: Choosing Where to Live
Compare commute, housing costs, services, and lifestyle before choosing the Finnish city and neighborhood for your next home.

Compare daily life, not just distance
A home farther from the center may still offer a faster, more reliable trip if it sits beside a train or metro line. Test routes to work or study, grocery stores, healthcare, schools, and hobbies. Include ticket, fuel, parking, and time costs in the comparison.
Understand the regional trade-offs
Helsinki offers dense services, culture, and broad public transport, usually with higher housing costs. Espoo combines business hubs, metro connections, coastline, and quieter neighborhoods. Vantaa offers rail and airport connections and often more space for the budget. Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Jyväskylä, and other cities can provide strong universities, employment, and a different cost-to-space balance.
Search more than one area on Kotira
Build a shortlist of two to four locations and compare actual listings rather than averages alone. Post your housing request with acceptable alternative areas so providers can suggest options you may have missed. Visit finalists at different times of day before making a long-term decision.
